On World Menopause Day – let’s hear it for the Women!

Yeah I know what you’re thinking – another day, another ra-ra for some medical cause and for what? Well f-clubbers this is one for us because it’s World Menopause Day apparently (not sure who or why it was decided upon). However I am glad. Menopause is a given if you live to a certain middle age – and more and more of us do. Although far too many women do indeed go through early menopause in their 30s and early 40s.

For me, it’s been a year since I last had to buy tampons and I feel ok. I know I am one of the lucky ones and applaud each and every woman’s personal “cure” whether that be HRT, homeopathic remedies, Botox or lashings of rose. Susannah Constantine was on TV today saying she felt there was a physical menopause and a mental one and that they were vastly different experiences.

I do know what she means – whilst physically I’ve had the night sweats and a couple of meetings where I just had to “think cool” while the sweat sat damply on my upper lip and brow and cascaded between my breasts and shoulder blades (especially fun on the summer packed tube I can report). Embarrassing – yeah a bit -but no biggie. For me, anxiety has been an issue. Driving fast. Driving on motorways. Driving on the other side of the road. Anything to do with driving basically and tight enclosed spaces too (see tube story above, plus planes obvs). But I know I am not alone, others go through far worse than me and Marie Louise has experienced the difficulty of mid-age migraines which is so hard to treat.

My attitude has been deeply British – just Keep Calm and Carry On and try and have a laugh with your mates while doing it. Take that!

Love Jane x
