Notes from my Dressing Table: Nailing It

In these summer pedi months, I love a trip to the salon as much as the next gal. But there is something rather wonderful about a “beauty” at home. You know those fabulous moments when you have the house to yourself, Beyonce on Spotify, Odd Mom Out on the box (latest Netflix obsession for Sunday morning laugh-out-loud silliness), you pad (dance) around the house hair in bun, wearing a face and hair mask, then pluck from an array of colours your nail polish of the day. Bliss!I love doing my own nails and even if the end result is less than – ahem – polished – it’s fun to DIY.

This month alone I have tried the Beige French where the tip is still white but the main colour is more flesh than pale pink. It looks fresh. I also love black, deepest green and navy blue in summer – they are surprising and subversive for the season, therefore cooler than “pop” brighter colours.

Having said that scarlet never goes out of fashion – it’s a classic akin to the perfect crisp white shirt. Eternally stylish. For a modern edge I use a matte top coat which gives an icey finish I get endless comments on.

Here’s my pick of the pack:

Dior Sauvage 924 £19.50

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge 1 Pop Art £19

Christian Louboutin Noir £38

Essie Topless & Barefoot £7.95

Morgan Taylor Matte’s a Wrap £4.50

Chanel Mat Top Coat £20
